Andrew A. Brown
Founding Member and Board Member
Andrew is a native of Saint Catherine, Jamaica. In 1987, Andrew migrated to the United
States only to return to Jamaica in 1991 (Clarendon). While in Jamaica Andrew
attended the Hayes All Age School where he successfully completed his intermediate
school education and continued his studies at Vere Technical High School (VTHS).
During his tenure at VTHS Andrew excelled in technical drawing, mathematics, electrical
engineering technology, and accounting. After completing high school in 1996, Andrew
returned to the United States and began pursing his colleague studies at New York City
Technical College (NYCTC) before transferring the City College of New York (CCNY).
Andrew graduated with his bachelors of engineering degree in electrical engineering
from CCNY in 2003. However, he knew he wanted more. In 2005, while working full
time as an electrical engineer in nuclear power plant, Andrew decided to pursue a
master’s degree in engineering management. Today Andrew is the proud holder of a
master’s of science degree in engineering management from Drexel University.
Andrew has always sort to make a positive impact on those around him and the
institutions in which he entered. While in high school, Andrew led the 1995 Junior
Chamber International (Jaycees) fundraiser, which created the Certificate of Friendship
and Certificate of Love. Both certificates sold extremely well and raised significant
funds for the Jaycees organization. In college, Andrew led the charge to have power
engineering courses added to CCNY’s curriculum. Today, those courses are still being
offered at CCNY (Electric Power Engineering and Elements of Power Systems). In his
current engineering position, Andrew noticed a lack of options for young engineers and
Andrew led efforts to implement an engineering rotation program as a career
development option for young engineers. His concept for the engineering rotation
program found its way to the desk of his company’s chief executive officer (CEO). After
much deliberation, his employer implemented the engineering rotation program in
January 2009. Andrew has made an impact on every environment he has inhabited but
he still contributes much of his inspiration to his VTHS math teacher, Mr. Alton
McPherson.
It was Andrew’s admiration and respect for the teachers VTHS that led him and others
to create the Vere Technical Future Foundation. Without their guidance, Andrew would
not be where he is today and for that, he is eternally thankful.
