What Inspires Us
Booker T. Washington once said, “In all things that are purely social we can be as
separate as the fingers, yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress.”
In November 2007, Andrew returned to Vere Technical to say hello to teachers and to
meet with the current principal, Dr. Henritta Stewart. Though he was happy to be home,
he was surprised at to see the physical condition of the school and equally surprised to
hear about the declining academic level of the current students. It was at this point
that, Andrew, Richard, Orville, and Jacqueline started formulating ideas to help the
faculty and student body of Vere Technical High School.
We owe a great deal of what we are today to the guidance we received during our
tenure at Vere Technical. Our friendship began at Vere Technical, over the years, we
have remained close and our friendship has grown stronger. For those of us who
graduated from the engineering class in 1996, we remember the impact teachers like
Mrs. Williams, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Bailey, and Mr. McPherson (to name a few) had on our
lives. This is not unique to us, we know you too can point to a teacher(s) from Vere
Technical that helped you become the man or woman that you are today. We know
several of us planted friendships at Vere Technical that will last for a lifetime. So, in
honor of our friendship and in honor of all the teachers and staff that guided us to our
current path, we were inspired to create the Vere Technical Future Foundation.
We may all live separate and distant lives but together we can be the hand that helps to
move Vere Technical Students into the future. We see the continued success of Vere
Technical High School students as essential to mutual progress. If you believe in our
mission, join us as we try to give back to the school that has given us so much. Our
success is intertwined with the success of the school we love.
Isaac Newton said, "If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on
the shoulders of giants" - Let the future Vere Technical High School students stand on
our giant shoulders, lets make sure they see farther than we currently do!
